General:

  1. Turn in pals and travel pictures to the box in the library or e-mail them to

2. Not old enough to vote yet?  Make yourself heard.  The Paly JSA is hosting a  
        mock presidential primary election.  Come out tomorrow - Super Tuesday 
        during brunch and lunch to the quad and vote!

  1. Attention Juniors:  Opportunity of a lifetime!  Applications are available in the

Work Experience Office for students interested in applying for the Astrophysics Lockheed PAID Internship.  Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA, be an American Citizen or have a Permanent Resident Card.  You must be able to work full time this summer and the following summer (after graduation) as well as 10-12 hours during senior year.  Enrollment in the Work Experience class is mandatory.  Application deadline is April 17th, 2008.  Specific details on application.  (Gyves)

Clubs and Meetings:

  1. We’ve changed our meeting day!  The Gay-Straight Alliance meets Monday (today) at lunch in room 33.  All welcome!
  2. Peer Buddies & Associated Members of Best Buddies meet Tuesday at lunch in room 33.
  3. There will be a Thespian Society meeting this Tuesday at lunch in the theater.
  4. CSF sign-ups all month before school, after school, at brunch or lunch in room 402. (Duffy)
  5. Plan ahead: Work Experience meets Tuesday at 3:05–4:00pm in room 309 or at Gunn 6:00 – 7:00pm room L-7  Bring signed papers/paystubs.  It’s not too late to sign up for the Work Experience class!  Variable credit.  Job not a necessity to be in the class.

College and Career:

  1. You must have teacher's permission one day in advance to attend a college rep

     visit. Pick up form in CCC or download from paly.net/college. Bring it the day of  
     the visit.

  1. Come to the College and Career Center on Tuesday, February 5th at 9:50 to find

    out how you can live what you believe.  Learn more about The Woolman 
     Semester; it offers students in their junior, senior and post-graduate year the 
     opportunity to focus on the studies on peace, social justice and environmental
     sustainability, while earning full high-school credit on our 230-acre campus in
     Northern California.

  1. Representatives from Stanford University's High School Summer College will visit  

         Feb. 7th at 9:30 a.m. to discuss an eight-week summer college

Seniors:

  1. If you did not pick up your Josten’s graduation order, announcements, etc., please pick it up in the Auditor’s Office today. If you only ordered and cap and gown you will get those in May. (Mullins)
  2. Please see the Registrar about your Boston College applications if you did one. There seems to be a problem with them for many of you. (Brown)
  3. Athletic:

  1. Track practice has started. The last day to join is today, Feb. 4 (Mullins)
  2. Last day for softball tryouts for girls not in a winter sport is today, February 4th.  Meet at 3:30 on the softball field.  If you are in a winter sport, come out when your season is over.  (Larson)

  UC Los Angeles – Alumni Association – Freshman Scholarship Program
     Ralph J. Bunche Freshman Alumni – Seniors interested in attending UCLA
are offered two Alumni Scholarship opportunities ranging from $4,000-$15,000 paid over four years.  Freshman Scholarship Program is based on merit and may be paid over 4 years.  Installments for the second, third and fourth year are offered upon completion of thirty hours service to UCLA and the Alumni Association.  The Ralph J.   Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Initiative – DEADLINE 02/15/2008
     High School Juniors and Seniors with leadership potential and who are
     involved in community service programs are invited to apply for the NEI’s
     Student Leaders program.  Selected Students Leaders will receive a paid
     summer internship with a local non-profit organization and participate in a
     six-day all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in
     partnership with Bank of America and the Close Up Foundation.  If interested,

    Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship – Seniors who are in need of financial
assistance for college: (typical family income does not exceed $50,000).  Must have satisfactory academic standing and have been accepted to an accredited two or four-year college.  Essay and recommendations required.  Preference given to students who worked while attending California high schools and fulfilled minimum CSU coursework requirements with grade of C or better, $500-$4,000 for the first year and provides support during all undergraduate years, regardless of the number of years in college to graduate.  Applicant must also submit family’s financial information and FAFSA.  Questions?  Call Mrs. Smallwood at 650-322-9417 or jerry@jerrysmallwood.com.  DEADLINE 02/15/2008
  National CO-OP Scholarship Program
     Seniors particularly interested in science-math-engineering-technology are
     encouraged to apply for one hundred eighty-five, $6,000 merit co-op based
     scholarships.  Criteria includes a GPA of 3.5 min., a one page essay on why
     you have chosen to pursue a college cooperative education program and the

  Ronald McDonald House Scholarship Program – RMHC/ASIARMHC (Hispanic
  American Commitment to Educational Resources) RMHC Scholars – Seniors
who are interested in attending a two or four year college or vocational/technical school full-time in the Fall of 2008 and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents who face limited access to educational and career opportunities.  Applicants must be legal U.S. residents, reside within the geographic boundaries of a participating Chapter, submit transcript, personal statement, letter of recommendation, and a copy of parent’s Form 1040.  Candidates will be selected by an assessment of academic achievement, financial need, personal qualities, a personal statement and a letter of recommendation.  A minimum of $1,000 scholarships to be awarded.  Visit website for application:  http://www.rmhc.org or contact Josephine Fazio at Josephine.fazio@us.mcd.cm for additional information.  DEADLINE 02/15/2008
    Burger King Scholars Program
        Seniors who have part-time jobs.  Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, work
