General:
- Are you still trying to decide what electives to register for next year. Come hear about some exciting course offerings ar Paly for 2008 – 2009 tomorrow in the Library during lunch. Visual and Performing Arts, Career Voc. Ed., World Languages, Math and Living Skills teachers will be proudly showcasing their courses for you to check out. (Diorio)
- Don’t forget to turn in your Pals and Travel pictures to the box in the Library or email them to paly.yearbook@gmail.com by tomorrow. (Strano)
- There will be yoga today at 3:15 in the ERC. Come ready to stretch in comfortable clothes. Yoga is open to everyone. (Vilms)
- What will the winner’s prize be? A trip to Hawaii? A new Lexus? Entrance to the university of your choice? A box of Junior Mints? Come see Mrs. Paugh in room 219 and mark your Oscar ballot by this Friday. If you were in Film Comp and Literature last semester or last year or just want to enter the contest, this is the announcement you’ve been waiting to hear. This is the last week to enter. (Paugh)
Clubs and Meetings:
- CSF sign-ups continue in room 402 before school, at brunch, lunch and after school through Feb. 29. (Duffy)
- The National Honor Society meets today in room 402. Current members are required to attend and new members are welcome. (Duffy)
- Got any extra Monopoly sets? The Paly YCS is hosting a board game drive. Help support the men and women who have served our natin and are now undergoing rehabilitation by donating gently-used, non-violent board games to the drop-off box in the Library. (ASB)

California State University at Chico- Music Scholarships & Awards - Seniors who are interested in attending Cal State Chico in the Music Department. Scholarships and Awards available. California Teacher Ass’n (CTA) Santa Clara County Service Center Council Human Rights Scholarship - Seniors who are members of an under represented group such as: Hispanic, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, African American, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual, Disabled persons. Must pursue a college degree at an accredited 4-year institution and a credential for a teaching career in Pre/K-12 public education. Applicants must present application with letter of recommendation, official transcript and interview with selection committee if selected as a scholarship finalist. Kaiser Permanente Asian Association (KPAA) Scholarship Program - Asian seniors who are interested in attending a two or four year college, trade or technical school. Application includes min. 2.5 GPA, personal essay, and letter of recommendation. Five $2,000 scholarships to be awarded. Stephanie Brown Cadet Memorial Foundation Scholarship Program - High school Seniors with an exemplary volunteer record at a community service organization. Scholarship features awards of $1000 each which are renewable for up to four years. Qualified candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be able to document significant numbers of volunteer service during previous 18 months, plan on attending a U. S. two or four year academic, vocational, or technical college, and be a U.S. citizen residing in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. Chatham University - Seniors interested in attending Chatham University. Several merit-based scholarships are available. Applicants must complete an admissions application and in some cases audition or interview for up to $16,000 per year in scholarships. Scholarships are renewable for four years based on a GPA of 2.8 or higher and full-time enrollment. DEADLINE: 03/01/2008
Whitman College –Scholarships - Campbell Scholarship and Higley Music Scholarship - Seniors interested in attending Whitman College may apply for these 4-year, renewable scholarships. The Campbell scholarships are available to anyone, regardless of major and range from $500-$2000. The Higley Awards are for music majors with awards up to $7000. Silicon Valley Community Foundation – 2007 Eustace-Kwan Family Foundation Scholarship - Seniors who are residents of Mountain View, East Palo Alto, Eastern Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont or San Mateo. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, have a maximum unweighted GPA of 3.5. Up to 12 awards of $2500 each. Applicant must submit application, 2-3 letters of reference, transcript, personal statement, copy of parent or guardian’s most recent Tax Form 1040 and proof of citizenship or legal residency. This scholarship deliberately recruits students that have lower GPAs, but might follow a different life path if they receive additional funds. Silicon Valley Community Foundation – Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing - Seniors who plan to major in the field of creative writing and who have demonstrated creative writing ability. Two grants of $1000 will be awarded. Applicant must submit application form, two letters of reference (one from a teacher or academic advisor and one from a work or volunteer supervisor), transcript, signed and dated personal statement, demonstrate financial need, proof of citizenship, and two creative writing samples completed for school, formal publication or extracurricular activity. Whittier College – Talent Scholarships - Seniors who are interested in attending Whittier College: Talent scholarships for Music, Theatre and Art ranging in value from $1000 to $12,000 per year and renewable for four years of study. Auditions for music scholarships will be held on 03/08/2008, Art Portfolios are due 03/19/2008 and Theatre auditions will be held on 3/15/2008. All applicants should submit supporting documents by those dates which include an essay, letters of recommendation, audition or submission of portfolio and the completion of a talent application form.
