General:

  1. By the time you are hearing this announcement, we hope to have our lunch entertainment for today confirmed but the rest of the week is all set, we promise. Today’s fun and creative activity is making t-shirts with pledges or other messages that reflect a positive impact on our world. (Benfield)
  2. The Village Cheese House is celebrating our Not In Our School Week. If you buy a sandwich you can get a free bag of chips; today – seniors, Tuesday – juniors, Wednesday – sophomores, Thursday – freshmen and Friday – staff get a free bag of chips with sandwich. Must bring I.D. (Puorro)

  3. College Rep Visits: You must have teacher’s permission one day in advance to attend. Pick up a form in the CCC or download from paly.net/college and bring it with you the day of the visit.

Scholarships:
Peninsula Insurance Women's Ass’n - Seniors in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties planning to continue their education. Criteria: minimum 2.75 GPA, essay on “Statistics show that, even with all the safety training, young drivers still take risks. What types of incentives do you think work best to encourage young drivers to obey the law? What in your opinion, doesn’t work?”Also, work or volunteer experience, achievements or extra-curricular activities. 1- $1000 scholarship for each county. Submit application located in college center Scholarship drawer and school sealed copy of transcript. Vietnamese Physician Ass’n of No. Cal - Vietnamese descent seniors from Northern California with financial hardship planning to attend college in the summer or fall of 2007 may apply for these $1000 scholarships. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater, submit the three page application including a personal essay along with high school transcript, two letters of recommendations and a copy of your parents’ income tax return. Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterrey Bay, Inc. - High School Seniors who have participated in at least one of JA High School Programs between 9/1/2004 through 6/15/2008. One award of $1500 and one award of $1000 will be given. Interested applicants must submit an essay of no more than 250 words on the topic “Illustrate how a maxim that is important to you will help you select and achieve your career aspirations.” , a completed application, a high school transcript and the signatures of high school teacher and principal. Ayn Rand Institute – Fountainhead Essay Writing Contest - Essay writing contest for 11th and 12th graders based on Ayn Rand’s novel “The Fountainhead”. First prize winner receives $10,000 and Five 2nd place winners will receive $2,000. Essays must range between 800 and 1600 words in length, typewritten and doublespaced. Essays will be judged on style and content, emphasizing writing that is clear, articulate, and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic and psychological meaning of “The Fountainhead”.
